The story of Guadalupe
The Virgin of Guadalupe appeared, in the tradition, to Juan Diego at Tepeyac in 1531, and her image became the central religious symbol of Mexico and a foundation of Mexican identity. The name is given to both sexes across the Spanish-speaking world in her honor, and Mexican-American families brought it to the United States, where masculine Guadalupe peaked around 1920.
Meaningscholars disagree
river of the wolf; hidden river
From the Arabic wadi, 'river' or 'valley', joined to a second element that is disputed — the Latin lupus, 'wolf', or an Arabic word meaning 'hidden' or 'black'. The Spanish river Guadalupe gave its name to a shrine, and the shrine to the Mexican apparition of 1531.

The Noble test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Guadalupe's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Noble climbed just as high around 1901, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Noble's path sketches the road Guadalupe is walking now.
Guadalupe sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
