The story of Rodrick
Roderic lost Spain to the Umayyad invasion in 711 and the name stayed in Spanish as Rodrigo. Quite separately, Scottish and Irish Ruaidhrí — from ruadh, red — was anglicized as Roderick because the sounds were near enough, which is why Highland Rodericks are usually Ruaidhrís underneath. Rodrick without the e appears in American records from the twentieth century.
