Enedina
Feminine
The Spanish calendar of saints has a very long tail. Beyond the famous names are hundreds of local martyrs known from a single medieval martyrology, venerated in one diocese, and given to children born on their day. Enedina is one of these: a Sardinian martyr with a feast on 14 May and almost no biography.

The story of Enedina
The santoral works as a naming system precisely because it is exhaustive. Every day of the year has saints attached to it, and beyond the universally known figures are enormous numbers of local ones, some historical, some legendary, some the product of a misread inscription. A child born on a given day could be named for whoever was listed, and in Spain and Latin America many were, which is why nineteenth-century records contain names nobody would otherwise have chosen: Eleuteria, Sinforosa, Nicanora, Enedina, Presentacion. Most of these saints have no story beyond a name and a place of death. The practice weakened through the twentieth century and had largely gone by the 1970s, so the names it produced now function as markers of a generation and a region rather than of a devotion.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Enedina has no established etymology. A Greek origin from enodios, of the road, has been proposed, and a connection to a Latin name is also suggested; neither is documented. Saint Enedina appears in Sardinian and Spanish martyrologies as a companion of Justa and Justina, martyred at Cagliari, with a feast on 14 May. The name reached Mexico through the calendar and peaks in the American data in 1927.

The Marquerite test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Enedina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Marquerite climbed just as high around 1912, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Marquerite's path sketches the road Enedina is walking now.
Enedina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
