The story of Emmanuella
Isaiah tells a king that a young woman will bear a son and call him Immanuel, as a sign; Matthew's gospel quotes the verse, and the name became a Christian one on that account. It spread across every Christian language — Emmanuel in French and English, Manuel in Spanish and Portuguese, Emanuele in Italian. The feminine forms followed. Emmanuella is used particularly in West Africa, where Nigerian and Ghanaian families give it freely, and its American record largely follows them.
Meaning
God is with us
Hebrew Immanu El is two words — immanu, 'with us', and El, 'God' — and it is a statement rather than a description. The reading is documented and undisputed. Emmanuella is the feminine, formed with the -a and -ella endings that Italian and Spanish use, and it carries the same sentence unchanged.

About 1 girl in 17,470 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 29,764 for Emmanuella itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
