Domonic
Masculine · “Of the Lord”
Domonic is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 2,990 boys against 67 girls since 1880.
Domonic is Dominic with the middle vowel changed, and there is a logic to it: the second syllable is unstressed and reduced, so o and i sound identical there. The spelling records how the name is actually said rather than how Latin spelled it.

The story of Domonic
Saint Dominic, born in Castile around 1170, founded the Order of Preachers and gave the name its European standing; he was himself named for the day of his birth, or for the earlier Saint Dominic of Silos. The name spread through Catholic Europe as Domenico, Domingo, Dominique and Dominic, and reached America by all of those roads. Its American revival came in the middle of the twentieth century and it has been steady since. Domonic is a small variant stream inside that: it appears from the 1960s and peaks in the late 1970s, in the same years as Dominik, Domenick and Dominique, when the family of spellings was at its widest.
Meaning
Of the Lord
From Latin Dominicus, from dominus, lord — the name given from late antiquity to children born on dies dominica, the Lord's day. The reading is settled. The o in the second syllable of Domonic has no Latin basis; it is an American respelling of a vowel that is reduced to a schwa in speech anyway.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Franky test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Domonic's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Franky climbed just as high around 1960, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Franky's path sketches the road Domonic is walking now.
