Diontae
Masculine · “of Dionysus”
Tragedy means goat song. The Greek is tragos, a goat, plus oide, a song, and nobody has ever settled why — a goat as the prize, a goat sacrificed at the festival, or singers dressed as goat-legged satyrs. All three explanations are ancient and none of them is proven.

The story of Diontae
Greek drama began at a religious festival. The City Dionysia in Athens was a five-day event in honor of Dionysus at which tragedies were performed in competition, three playwrights presenting three tragedies and a satyr play each, judged and awarded a prize. Everything anyone knows about Greek tragedy comes from that: the surviving plays are competition entries. The word for the genre is one of the oldest puzzles in classical scholarship, and the goat in it is not in dispute — only what the goat was doing. Comedy is easier: komoidia is the song of the komos, the drunken procession, which is exactly what it sounds like.

The Aldric test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Diontae's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Aldric climbed just as high around 1967, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Aldric's path sketches the road Diontae is walking now.
Diontae sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled Greek origin traceable to one of the oldest divine names in Europe.
- Two short forms, both of which are names in their own right.
- Three open syllables with a regular stress pattern.
- Deontae, Diontay and Deonte are all in use, so the spelling will be given.
- Only the front has a meaning; the ending carries none.
- It belongs to a narrow band of years and dates the bearer to them.
