Deserae
Feminine · “desired”
One vowel separates this name from Desarae, and the American record holds both as separate names. That is what happens to a French name with three unstressed syllables and two accents: nothing in the middle is clearly audible, so anyone writing it by ear has several defensible choices, and families made all of them. The Latin behind it was given to a long-awaited child.

The story of Deserae
Desideratus and Desiderata are documented late Roman names and were carried by several early bishops. French kept them as Désiré and Désirée, and the feminine became widely known through a Marseille merchant's daughter who ended up Queen of Sweden. American use grew through the twentieth century and peaked in the 1980s, generating a whole spread of spellings that differ only in the unstressed middle. Deserae appears from 1969 and peaked in 1992.
Meaning
desired, longed for
From the Latin Desideratus and its feminine Desiderata, meaning longed for — a name early Christians gave to a child whose arrival had been waited on, sometimes after other children had died. French made Désiré and Désirée of it. The meaning is unusually specific about the circumstances of a birth.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Deserae's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Renell climbed just as high around 1965, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Renell's path sketches the road Deserae is walking now.
Deserae sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
