The story of Debbie
Deborah was a Puritan favorite, brought to America by families who preferred Old Testament names, and it stayed steadily in use for three hundred years. What changed in the twentieth century was not the name but the paperwork: pet forms that had always existed in speech began to be written on birth certificates as the legal name. Debbie was one of the great beneficiaries of that shift, arriving at the top of the chart at almost exactly the same moment as Debra, its own sister spelling.
Meaning

The Gloria test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Debbie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Gloria climbed just as high around 1925, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Gloria's path sketches the road Debbie is walking now.
Debbie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
