Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who hid Jewish neighbors in a false wall in her bedroom. The family were betrayed, her father died in prison within days, her sister died in Ravensbruck, and she was released a week before every woman her age in the camp was killed — through what the records show was a clerical error.

The story of Corie
The hiding place was a brick wall built inside a bedroom, with a sliding panel behind a bookcase and an air vent, and it held six people for two days while the house was searched. All six survived; the family who built it did not. What makes the story unusual in the literature of that period is what she did afterwards: she set up a home for camp survivors, spoke for thirty years, and described meeting one of her sister's guards at a church meeting in Munich and having to decide, on the spot, whether to shake his hand.

In America this spelling is generally a form of Corey or a short form of Corinne or Cora, and it has been given to daughters and sons alike. The Dutch name is separate: it is a familiar form of Cornelia, which is a Roman family name, and it is unrelated to the English surname behind the American versions. The record does not distinguish them.

- a Roman family name gives Dutch Cornelia and its short forms

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Corie went to 22 girls in 2025, but Korie, Corrie and Korrie are the same name said out loud. Together the 4 spellings went to 95, which makes it the 865th most-given girls’ name of the year — 4,689 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 16,919 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 73,058 for Corie itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

- It reads as a pet form and people will look for a longer name.
- It is closely dated to the last decades of the century in American use.
