The story of Corie
The hiding place was a brick wall built inside a bedroom, with a sliding panel behind a bookcase and an air vent, and it held six people for two days while the house was searched. All six survived; the family who built it did not. What makes the story unusual in the literature of that period is what she did afterwards: she set up a home for camp survivors, spoke for thirty years, and described meeting one of her sister's guards at a church meeting in Munich and having to decide, on the spot, whether to shake his hand.

In America this spelling is generally a form of Corey or a short form of Corinne or Cora, and it has been given to daughters and sons alike. The Dutch name is separate: it is a familiar form of Cornelia, which is a Roman family name, and it is unrelated to the English surname behind the American versions. The record does not distinguish them.

- a Roman family name gives Dutch Cornelia and its short forms
- an English surname gives the American Corey

- Corey, Cori and Corrie are all in the record and will be substituted.
- It reads as a pet form and people will look for a longer name.
- It is closely dated to the last decades of the century in American use.
