The story of Clarabelle
Clara was an early Christian name — Clare of Assisi founded the Poor Clares in 1212 — and Latin naming compounded freely. Clarabelle and Clarabel appear in English and American records from the nineteenth century; the name was well used around 1910. Its Latin transparency is unusual: most compound names have at least one element nobody can explain, and this has none.
Meaning
bright and beautiful
From Latin clarus, clear or bright, and bella, beautiful; the same first element gives clarity, declare and clarion, and the second gives belle and embellish. Both halves are transparent.

The Laurette test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Clarabelle's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Laurette climbed just as high around 1904, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Laurette's path sketches the road Clarabelle is walking now.
Clarabelle sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
