Christianna

Christ is not a name but a translation. Greek christos means anointed, smeared with oil, and it renders Hebrew mashiach — messiah — word for word. Messiah and Christ are the same term in two languages, and both describe a ritual, not a person.

The story of Christianna
Anointing was the ritual that made a king a king in ancient Israel: Samuel anoints Saul and then David, and the anointed one becomes a standing term for the legitimate ruler. When the Hebrew scriptures were translated into Greek in Alexandria, mashiach became christos, and when the Gospels applied the title to Jesus, English inherited it as Christ. English also borrowed the Hebrew word directly, much later, as messiah, so the language now carries the same term twice, in two forms, without most speakers noticing. Christiana entered English use after the Reformation; the compound Christianna peaks in America in 1995.
Meaning
Greek "anointed", joined to Hebrew "grace"
Christos is the past participle of chriein, to anoint or rub with oil, and was used in the Septuagint to translate mashiach, the anointed one — a title applied to kings and priests, whose installation involved pouring oil on the head. Anna is from Hebrew Hannah, grace or favor. Christianna is an American compound of Christiana and Anna, or an extension of Christiana; the pair carries no meaning beyond its halves.
