The story of Casandra
In the myth, Apollo gives Cassandra the gift of prophecy and, when she refuses him, adds the condition that nobody will believe her. She foresees the fall of Troy and is ignored, and the tragedy is not that she is wrong but that being right is useless. The figure has had an unusually long technical afterlife: the Cassandra problem is discussed seriously in the literature on intelligence failures, disaster preparedness and corporate risk, because organizations really do fail to act on accurate warnings for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the warning. Very few names have become terms of art in that way. The name's own meaning, ironically, is not known; the second half is probably the word for man, and the first half has resisted explanation for as long as scholars have tried.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Lea test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Casandra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lea climbed just as high around 1970, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lea's path sketches the road Casandra is walking now.
Casandra sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
