The story of Bladimir
Vladimir the Great was the ruler of Kyiv who converted to Orthodox Christianity around 988 and took his people with him, which shaped the whole of eastern Europe; the name has been carried by rulers and saints ever since. It reached Latin America in the twentieth century, chosen for its sound and sometimes for its politics, and Spanish spelling gave it a b. Bladimir is common in the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Peru.
Meaning
great in rule; ruler of the world
Slavic vlad, to rule, joined to mir, which means both world and peace. The second element was reshaped from an older Slavic word for great, so the name has been read as great in power and as ruler of the world, and both readings are current.
