Aundria
Feminine · “manly”
Adding a syllable to Andrea is the one thing American naming did to it that changes anything. The au at the front is decoration and makes no difference to the sound, but the -ia ending genuinely does: Andrea has three syllables and Aundria has four, with the weight distributed differently. It is a small structural change dressed up in a large orthographic one.

The story of Aundria
Andrea entered English use as a woman's name in the seventeenth century and became very widely given in twentieth-century America, at which point the respellings arrived. The au- versions form a coherent set — Aundrea, Aundria, Deaundre, Laundra — and what they share is a decorative treatment of an unstressed opening syllable. The -ia ending is a separate decision and a more consequential one. Aundria appears in the record from 1942 and peaked in 1944, then reappears in the 1980s, which suggests two quite separate populations under one spelling.
Meaning
manly, brave
From the Greek andreios, manly or courageous, built on aner, a man, in its stem form andros. Andrea is the feminine of Andrew in English and German and the masculine of the same name in Italian, which is one of the more durable confusions in European naming.

Pronouncing Aundria
awn-DREE-uh
Four syllables in careful speech, stress on the second. Andrea has three, so the -ia ending genuinely lengthens the name — unlike the au at the front, which changes nothing at all.

The Willowdean test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Aundria's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Willowdean climbed just as high around 1927, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Willowdean's path sketches the road Aundria is walking now.
Aundria sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Andi and Dria are both usable and belong to different decades.
- The name behind it is recognized in every European language.
- The meaning is one word long and easy to give.
- Four open syllables that sit well after almost any surname.
- Andrea is the standard spelling and will be substituted on nearly everything.
- Aundrea, Aundria and Ondrea all appear, so the spelling has to be given.
- In Italy the name is a man's, which causes real confusion on international paperwork.
