Amjad
Masculine · “More glorious”

The story of Amjad
The elative names are a well-established Arabic type, though Amjad itself is not attached to a single famous early bearer in the way that Walid or Usama are. It is used across the Arab world and, heavily, in Pakistan and among South Asian Muslims, where it is one of the ordinary names of the twentieth century. Amjad Ali Khan, the sarod player born in Gwalior in 1945, is among the best-known bearers; Amjad Sabri, the qawwali singer, another. American records show the name from the 1970s with Arab and South Asian immigration, peaking in the mid-1980s, and it has stayed at a low, steady level since.
Meaning
More glorious, most glorious
From the Arabic root m-j-d, glory or nobility, in the elative pattern afʿal that expresses more or most. The same root gives Majid, glorious, and Majd, glory. Amjad is also read as a plural of majd in some sources, giving glories, but the elative sense is the standard one for the name.

The Samuell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Amjad's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Samuell climbed just as high around 1940, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Samuell's path sketches the road Amjad is walking now.
Amjad sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
