The story of Amauri
Two kings of Jerusalem were called Amalric in the twelfth century, and Simon de Montfort's father Amaury led the Albigensian Crusade. The amal element is the same one behind Amerigo Vespucci's name and so behind America. Amauri appears in Brazilian and American records in current use.
Meaning
work ruler
From the Germanic amal, 'work' or 'vigor', and ric, 'ruler' or 'power'. The same amal opens Amerigo, for whom America is named. French made Amaury and Italian Amauri. The elements are ordinary Germanic and the reading undisputed.

About 1 boy in 19,633 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 26,689 for Amauri itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Jasson test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Amauri's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jasson climbed just as high around 1976, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jasson's path sketches the road Amauri is walking now.
Amauri sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
