Aaminah
Feminine · “Arabic "trustworthy”
Aaminah is a transliteration doing careful work. The doubled a is not decoration: it marks a genuinely long vowel in the Arabic, and the terminal h marks the feminine ending. Where a modern American coinage doubles a letter for looks, this spelling doubles it because the Arabic requires it — and the difference is worth stating plainly.

The story of Aaminah
Āminah bint Wahb was the mother of the Prophet Muhammad, who died when he was six. That gives the name a particular standing across the Muslim world — it is used everywhere Islam is, from Morocco to Indonesia, and appears in the American data under a dozen romanisations. Amina, Aminah, Aaminah and Ameena are the same Arabic word written by different conventions; the double a is the one used where the long vowel is being preserved deliberately, typically by South Asian and British Muslim families. The 2015 American peak reflects the growth of those communities.
Meaning
Arabic "trustworthy, secure, at peace"
From the Arabic root ʾ-m-n, which gives amān, safety, and īmān, faith, and the word amen. Āminah is the feminine adjective: one who is safe, or one who is trusted. The same root produces al-Amīn, "the trustworthy", a title given to the Prophet Muhammad before his mission. The etymology is entirely settled.

Pronouncing Aaminah
AA-mee-nah
Three syllables with the stress on the first and a genuinely long opening vowel — that length is what the doubled a records. English speakers say uh-MEE-nuh, shortening the first vowel and moving the stress, which loses the distinction the spelling exists to preserve.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. The trade-off
- The meaning is settled, warm and connected to a root that also gives the word faith.
- The spelling preserves a real Arabic distinction rather than inventing one.
- Mina is a ready-made short form that works in many languages.
- The doubled a will be read as a typo by English speakers.
- At least six romanisations of this name are in American use.
- English pronunciation moves the stress and shortens the vowel the spelling is protecting.
