Car names that became baby names
25 names · 8 girls · 17 boys · records through 2025
This is a two-way street and the records show both directions. Lincoln, Bentley, Ford and Austin were surnames long before they were cars; Mercedes was a girl's name that a manufacturer borrowed in 1901.
This guide has 25 names: 8 girl names and 17 boy names. A curated set of automotive marque and model names matched against the latest US records; only names in real use appear. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.
Before the names
The modern half runs the other way, from showroom to nursery — a genuinely American naming habit that leaves a clear signature in the data.
