Zharia
Feminine
English has the sound but no letter for it. The zh of Zharia is the consonant in measure, vision and garage — a sound English uses constantly and has never given a spelling. The digraph zh comes from Russian transliteration, and that is the only place English gets it.

Our story of Zharia
The consonant in measure is a genuine gap in English spelling. It arrived late in the language, largely through French loans — pleasure, treasure, vision, rouge, genre — and by the time it was common the alphabet was settled, so it was left to be written with s, g, si or ge depending on the word's history. No native English word begins with it. The only spelling English ever developed is zh, and that came from nineteenth-century scholars transliterating Russian. So when American naming wanted the sound at the start of a name it had exactly one option and took it: Zhane, Zharia, Zhuri. The result looks foreign because the digraph only exists in foreign words, and it is in fact the most phonetically direct spelling English possesses for a sound its speakers make every day. Zharia peaks in 2000.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No inherited meaning. Zharia is an American formation, built on the Zh- opening with the -aria or -ria ending. The zh digraph is used in English chiefly to transliterate the Russian letter ж, as in Zhukov and Brezhnev, and the Chinese pinyin zh, which is a different sound. It carries no meaning here and functions purely as a spelling device.

The Jennelle test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Zharia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jennelle climbed just as high around 1981, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jennelle's path sketches the road Zharia is walking now.
