The story of Zephyr
Zephyros was the gentlest of the Anemoi and the bringer of spring — he appears in Botticelli's Primavera blowing across the canvas. The Greeks treated the winds as individuals with parentage and mythology rather than as weather, which is why Boreas has an abduction story and Zephyros a marriage to a flower nymph. The Tower of the Winds in Athens still carries all eight of them carved in relief.
Meaning
the west wind
From Greek Zephyros, the west wind, personified as a god; the ordinary noun came to mean a light breeze. Boreas was the north, Notos the south and Euros the east, each with its own character.
