Our story of Infinity
Ours, offered as ours. John Wallis introduced the ∞ symbol in a 1655 treatise and never explained why he chose that shape — the guesses include a Roman numeral for a thousand, a rope with no end, and a variant of the Greek omega. Cantor later proved that there are different sizes of infinity, some larger than others, which is one of the genuinely astonishing results in mathematics. The word is older and simpler: no boundary.
Meaning
endlessness
From Latin infinitas, from in-, not, and finis, an end or boundary; the same root gives finish, define and final. The word names the absence of a limit rather than a very large quantity.
Pronouncing Infinity

The Jamesetta test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Infinity's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jamesetta climbed just as high around 1950, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jamesetta's path sketches the road Infinity is walking now.
Infinity sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
