Zacheriah
Masculine · “the Lord has remembered”
This name comes in three lengths and they are all the same name. Zachary is the short English form, Zacharias the Greek, and Zachariah the fullest — closest to the Hebrew, and the one that keeps the divine name audible at the end. This spelling belongs to the long version, with an e where the standard has a second a.

The story of Zacheriah
In the Gospel of Luke, Zechariah is an old priest serving his turn in the temple when he is told he will have a son. He asks how he can be sure, and is struck mute for the question, staying silent through his wife's pregnancy until the child is born and he writes the boy's name on a tablet — John. It is a small, human scene about doubt being answered severely and then forgiven. English Protestants took up the name in the sixteenth century and America kept it. The spelling with the middle e is an American variation on the long form, and it changes nothing in speech.
Meaning
the Lord has remembered
From Hebrew Zekharyah. The -iah ending in English spellings of Hebrew names is the divine name in its short form, and it is the reason the longer version of this name feels weightier: it keeps the element that Zachary drops.

Four syllables, stress on the third. The middle vowel is reduced to almost nothing in speech, which is precisely why it can be written a or e without anyone hearing a difference.

The Blue test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Zacheriah's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Blue climbed just as high around 1969, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Blue's path sketches the road Zacheriah is walking now.
Zacheriah sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The long form keeps the divine element that the short one drops, which is the point of choosing it.
- Zach, Zeke and Ari are all available and could hardly be more different.
- The name is recognized in Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions alike.
- The meaning is a full sentence and takes four words to explain.
- Zachariah is the standard long spelling and will be substituted constantly.
- Four syllables and nine letters is a great deal for a small child, though Zach arrives fast.
- Because the difference is silent, the spelling must be dictated letter by letter every time.
