The story of Yosselin
Germanic naming used tribal names as name elements freely — Frank, Sachs, Wend and Gaut all appear — and Gauzlin was a common Frankish name carried to England by Breton and Norman settlers after 1066. It was a men's name in England for eight hundred years, appearing as Joscelin and Jocelin in medieval records, and became a surname. The shift to female use is recent and American. The Spanish-facing respellings — Yoselin, Yosselin, Joselyn — belong to the Central American and Dominican naming wave of the 1990s and 2000s, and Yosselin peaks in 2007.

Germanic, from the name of the Gauts or Goths
Jocelyn descends from Gaudelin or Gauzlin, a Frankish name generally traced to the tribal name of the Gauts, with a diminutive ending. The Normans brought it to England as a man's name; it became female in the twentieth century. Yosselin is a Latin American respelling, replacing the j with y to avoid the Spanish breathy h and doubling the s.
