The story of Yitty
Judith beheads Holofernes in the deuterocanonical book named for her — one of the most painted scenes in European art. Yiddish made Yitta and Yente from Yehudit, and Yitty is the everyday diminutive. It is common in Hasidic communities in New York and Israel, where diminutives are registered outright, and it appears in the American records in current use.
Meaning
woman of Judah
Through Yitta and Yehudit, the Hebrew feminine of Yehudah, Judah — so 'woman of Judah' or 'Jewess'. Judah's own name is connected in Genesis to hodah, 'to praise'. The word Jew descends from the same root, which makes the etymology unusually consequential.

Yitty's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kaydance climbed just as high around 2007, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kaydance's path sketches the road Yitty is walking now.
Yitty sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- As a diminutive on the certificate it carries an informal register into adult life.
- It is close in sound to several unrelated English words.
