The story of Yared
Yared of Aksum is credited by Ethiopian tradition with creating the zema, the chant system of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and with inventing a notation for it — a claim that would make him one of the earliest named composers anywhere. His feast is kept, and the name has been in Ethiopian use for centuries. It reaches American records with Ethiopian and Eritrean families in growing numbers.

The Eion test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Yared's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Eion climbed just as high around 2000, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Eion's path sketches the road Yared is walking now.
Yared sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
