Trayson
Masculine
Trayson is a patronymic that names no father. The -son ending is genuine and ancient: it marks descent, and Jackson, Harrison and Wilson all mean the son of a real name. Trayson attaches it to Tray-, which is not a name anyone has, so the ending is doing signaling work rather than grammatical work. Its peak is 2010.

Trayson first appears in US birth records in 1996 — 29 years ago. The typical Trayson is a kid of about 12 — this name's wave is very recent. About 500 people named Trayson are estimated to be alive in the US today.

Our story of Trayson
The -son ending has been through three lives in English. First it was grammar: a real statement about a real father, made freshly for each generation, and in Iceland it still works that way. Second it was a surname: the patronymic froze around the fifteenth century, stopped updating, and became a family name that no longer described anybody. Third — and this is where Trayson lives — it became a signal. By the time American parents started building new names with it, -son had lost even its surname reference and become a marker of category: this word is a name, and specifically a boy's name of the kind that used to be a surname. Trayson, Jaxson, Braxson and Kayson all use it that way. The ending still carries a thousand years of grammar and now conveys none of it, which is a perfectly ordinary fate for a suffix and worth knowing about the name.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The ending is genuine and the whole is not. Old English and Old Norse both formed patronymics with -son, and English surnames preserve hundreds of them: Johnson, Jameson, Robinson, Anderson, Harrison — each naming a father. Tray is not a personal name in that tradition. It appears in modern American naming as a front element, probably from Trey, itself from the French word for three and used for a third-generation namesake. So Trayson is a patronymic with nothing on the other side of the relation.

The Bengamin test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Trayson's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Bengamin climbed just as high around 1922, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Bengamin's path sketches the road Trayson is walking now.
Trayson sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
