The story of Titania
Ovid's Metamorphoses uses Titania several times as a way of referring to a goddess by her ancestry, which was ordinary Latin poetic practice — you named the family rather than the person. Shakespeare, whose Latin was good enough to read Ovid without a translation, lifted the word and gave it to the queen of the fairies, and it has been a name ever since. The moons are a separate accident with a documented cause: William Herschel discovered the planet, his son named the first two moons after Shakespeare and Pope characters, and the convention stuck. Uranus now has moons called Ophelia, Cordelia, Puck, Miranda, Ariel and Umbriel, which makes it the only planet with a reading list.
Meaning
daughter of the Titans
Latin Titania, a feminine form meaning a female descendant of the Titans. Ovid uses it as an epithet for Diana, Circe and Latona rather than as a name. Shakespeare, who read Ovid closely, took the epithet and made it a person.

The Reyne test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Titania's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Reyne climbed just as high around 1957, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Reyne's path sketches the road Titania is walking now.
Titania sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- Four syllables is a great deal of name and it will be shortened by others.
- It is close to the word titan and to titanium, and people will hear both.
- The character it comes from spends the play enchanted into loving a man with a donkey's head, which readers will mention.
