Elvina
Feminine · “elf friend”
Venus, venom and the win in Baldwin all come from one root. It meant to desire or strive for. Latin took it to the goddess and to venerate; it also produced venenum, a love potion, which turned into poison. Old English took it to wine, a friend — the person you want near you.

The story of Elvina
The reconstructed root behind wine is one of those that scattered widely and unrecognizably. It gives Latin venus, desire, and from there the goddess and the words venerate and venereal. It gives venenum, originally a love charm and later a poison, which English has as venom. It gives English win, in the sense of striving for something, and wish. And it gives the Old English wine, a friend, which stopped being an ordinary word around the twelfth century and survives only frozen in names. So a great many English surnames end in a word for friend that no English speaker has used in eight hundred years.
Meaning
elf friend
From Old English Aelfwine: aelf, an elf, with wine, a friend. Wine appears at the end of a long row of English names — Edwin, Baldwin, Godwin, Goodwin, Erwin, Alvin — and it always means friend. Elvina is the Latinate feminine, built centuries after the men's name.
