Tevon
Masculine
Tevon sits one consonant away from Devon, and Devon is an English county named after a British tribe the Romans found living there. That is the odd thing about the whole family this name belongs to: the ending everyone treats as a modern American invention traces back, through Devon, to a people whose own name for themselves was recorded two thousand years ago.

The story of Tevon
Devon crossed from English county to English surname to American first name in the usual way, and once it was being given in numbers the ending became available. American naming then did what it does: kept the ending, swapped the front, and produced Trevon, Javon, Davon, Tevon and a dozen more. They arrived together in the later twentieth century, spread together, and are recognizably a set. Tevon is among the shortest of them, and the T at the front does the same work the D does in Devon — one letter of difference, and a different name.
Meaningnot established
Not established
This name itself has no documented meaning; it was built from a front syllable and a familiar ending. The ending's ancestor does have one, in a distant sense: Devon comes from the Dumnonii, a British tribe whose name is usually connected to a word for deep, possibly referring to mining. Nothing links that to a child named Tevon, and it would be dishonest to present it as the name's meaning.
Pronouncing Tevon
TEV-on
Two syllables. Some families stress the first and some the second, and both are current. The e is short, as in seven, which is what keeps it distinct from Tevin and Teevon.

The Walden test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tevon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Walden climbed just as high around 1908, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Walden's path sketches the road Tevon is walking now.
Tevon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Five letters, two syllables, and completely transparent to an English reader.
- It rhymes with a familiar cohort, so it sounds established without being common.
- Both halves shorten cleanly, and Von is a standing name in American records.
- Tevin, Tevan and Trevon all sit close by, and mail will use each of them.
- The stress is unfixed, so the name arrives in two versions from two rooms.
- There is no meaning to hand a child, only an account of the family of names it belongs to.
