The story of Stacie
Anastasia was a major name in the Greek and Russian churches and reached western Europe through the saints' calendars. Eustace arrived separately, a Greek name attached to a Roman general in a legend about a stag with a cross in its antlers. English shortened both the same way, and Stacy was in use as a masculine name into the twentieth century before moving decisively to girls in the 1960s. The -ie spelling belongs to the 1970s wave and peaked in the middle of that decade.

resurrection
Read as short for Anastasia, the meaning is the Greek anastasis, 'resurrection', given in the early church to children born near Easter. Read as short for Eustace, it is the Greek eustachys, 'fruitful' or 'rich in grain'. Both derivations are well documented and the short form does not choose between them.

The Jan test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Stacie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jan climbed just as high around 1954, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jan's path sketches the road Stacie is walking now.
Stacie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Two large and unrelated classical names stand behind it, which is unusual depth for a short name.
- The -ie ending reads warmer than the -y or -i spellings.
- The sound is clean and carries well across a room.
- Four spellings were common at once, so the written form is never assumable.
- The name is closely tied to the 1960s and 1970s in American ears.
