The story of Seline
Selene drives the moon across the sky in Greek myth and is the sister of the sun and the dawn; the element selen- gave chemistry the name of an element, which was picked for its association with the moon. Céline is separate, a French name from a Roman family name, carried by a fourth-century saint and made widely known in the twentieth century. English speakers hear the two as near-identical, and Seline, Selina, Celine and Selene have circulated together ever since.

moon — through Selene; or heavenly — through Céline
Greek Selene is the moon and the goddess of it, from selas, 'light, brightness'. French Céline comes from Latin Caelina, built on caelum, 'sky, heaven' — the same word behind celestial. Both readings are documented on their own side and the names are unrelated. Seline is a spelling that could descend from either, and the record does not say which.

The Jalena test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Seline's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jalena climbed just as high around 2004, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jalena's path sketches the road Seline is walking now.
Seline sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
