In Russia this is what everybody called Alexander, and it belongs to both sexes there without alteration. A man called Aleksandr and a woman called Aleksandra are both Sasha to their families, and nothing about the form distinguishes them — which is unusual, because Russian is otherwise fairly insistent about marking sex.

The story of Sacha
The ch in this spelling is French, not English. Russian writes the sound with a single letter of its own, and when the name reached western Europe it came largely through French — which spells that sound ch, as in chef and machine. English would have written sh. So a spelling that looks like it should rhyme with catcher is following an entirely consistent rule from a third language, and the alternative spelling with an sh is the anglicized one rather than the other way round.
Meaning

Two syllables with the stress at the front. The ch is a plain sh, which is what French does with those letters and English does not.

The Myers test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sacha's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Myers climbed just as high around 1919, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Myers's path sketches the road Sacha is walking now.
Sacha sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

Where Sacha is headed
Sacha should hold steady through 2030 — the curve is flat, and flat curves are the most predictable kind. Its history is short or jumpy, though, so read this as a sketch rather than a promise.

The trade-off
- It is a living everyday name across most of Europe rather than a coinage.
- It works across the sexes and does so in practice, not only in theory.
- It is short, soft and easy for English speakers to say.
- The ch will be read as an English ch by people meeting it cold.
- Sasha is the commoner spelling in America and this gets corrected.
- The record holds girls as well, and the girl is the smaller side.
