The story of Richie
Richard came to England with the Normans and was carried by three kings, including the one who spent six months of a ten-year reign in England. English speech made Rick, Dick and Richie, the last by the ordinary -ie diminutive. American families registered Richie outright from the 1940s, and it is in current use.
Meaning
brave ruler
Through Richard, from the Germanic ric, 'ruler' or 'power', and hard, 'brave' or 'hardy'. Both elements are ordinary and the compound transparent. The English 'hard' is the same word with a shifted sense. The reading is undisputed.

Line the two peaks up, and Lesley's path sketches the road Richie is walking now.
