The story of Patrice
Lumumba was the first prime minister of the independent Congo, took office in June 1960, was deposed within months amid a secession crisis and foreign intervention, and was killed in January 1961 with the involvement of Belgian officers; the announcement of his death set off demonstrations in a dozen countries. He became one of the defining figures of the decolonisation period, and his given name, the French form of Patrick, entered American use in the year of his death and the years immediately after. It is one of the clearest political naming events in the data, and it is worth stating carefully: the curve shows the name arriving, not what any particular family meant by it.

The Agapito test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Patrice's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Agapito climbed just as high around 1926, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Agapito's path sketches the road Patrice is walking now.
Patrice sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
