The story of Nikolaus
Nicholas of Myra gave presents secretly, according to the legend, and became the patron of children. Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam kept the feast of Sinterklaas; English speakers heard the name as Santa Claus, and nineteenth-century American writers and illustrators built the modern figure around it. The German Nikolaus is the formal form and Klaus its universal short one.
Meaning

The Shigeru test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nikolaus's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Shigeru climbed just as high around 1918, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Shigeru's path sketches the road Nikolaus is walking now.
Nikolaus sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
