Nader
Masculine · “Arabic and Persian "rare”
Nader is the masculine of the same Arabic word behind Nadira: nādir, rare or scarce. The pair is worth setting side by side, because Arabic makes masculine and feminine from one adjective by a single ending, and English has no equivalent — Nader and Nadira are one word twice.

The story of Nader
The name is used across the Arabic-speaking world and in Iran, where Nader Shah ruled in the eighteenth century and is remembered as one of the great military commanders of Asian history. That gives the name a particular standing in Persian naming. Its American figures rise from the 1970s with immigration from Iran, Lebanon and Egypt, peaking in 1990. The er spelling reflects the standard English transliteration; Nadir is the more scholarly one.
Meaning
Arabic and Persian "rare, precious, scarce"
From the Arabic root n-d-r, to be rare. Nādir is the masculine adjective. English nadir, the lowest point, comes from a different Arabic word, naẓīr, meaning opposite or counterpart — the point opposite the zenith — and is a separate borrowing that only resembles this name. The etymology of the name itself is not disputed.

The Kennon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nader's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kennon climbed just as high around 1964, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kennon's path sketches the road Nader is walking now.
Nader sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
