Our reading is that the y in this name is doing genuine phonetic work rather than decorating. When two vowels meet across a syllable boundary, English speakers automatically insert a glide to separate them, and which glide depends on the first vowel: a front vowel produces y, a back vowel produces w. That is why the a in idea often ends with a faint y before a following vowel, and why saw it can sound like sawr it in some accents through a related process. Writers of coined names hear the glide and spell it, which is how Mia becomes Myah and Miana becomes Myana. The spelling is therefore more accurate than the standard one, in the narrow sense of representing more of what is said. It also makes the name look like it contains an English pronoun, which is a separate problem.
