Mirian
Feminine
Georgia became Christian in the 320s under a king called Mirian, which makes it one of the first Christian states anywhere. Within a century Georgian had its own alphabet, invented for the purpose and unrelated to any other script in the world. It is still in use, and it looks like nothing else.

The story of Mirian
Georgia's conversion is dated to the 320s or 330s and is attributed to a captive woman called Nino, who is now the country's patron saint. The kingdom of Kartli, called Iberia by Greek and Roman writers and unrelated to the Spanish one, sat between Rome and Persia and its conversion was a geopolitical event as much as a religious one. What followed was a burst of literacy: the Georgian alphabet appears in the fifth century, purpose-built, with a letter for every sound in the language and no relationship to Greek, Latin, Armenian or anything else in form. Three successive versions of it have been used and all three are still known; the modern one, Mkhedruli, has thirty-three letters and no capitals. It is one of only a handful of writing systems in the world that were designed rather than evolved, and UNESCO lists it as intangible cultural heritage.

Not established
Mirian is most often an American or Spanish variant of Miriam, whose meaning is genuinely unknown and may be Egyptian. It is separately a Georgian royal name, borne by Mirian III, who made Christianity the state religion of Iberia in the fourth century, and is generally taken as of Iranian origin. Which applies to a given bearer is not recoverable. It peaks in the American data in 1923.

The Aleatha test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Mirian's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Aleatha climbed just as high around 1906, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Aleatha's path sketches the road Mirian is walking now.
Mirian sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
