The story of Margarito
Margarita was one of the great medieval European names, carried by a much-venerated martyr, and Spanish used it heavily. Building a masculine from a feminine is unusual but not rare in Spanish naming, which also has Rosario, Guadalupe and Trinidad crossing between the sexes, generally for devotional reasons. Margarito was widely given in Mexico and the American Southwest in the first half of the twentieth century and has grown quieter since.

The Luster test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Margarito's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Luster climbed just as high around 1904, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Luster's path sketches the road Margarito is walking now.
Margarito sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
