Our story of Makhari is a story of three near neighbors. Makai is Hawaiian for 'toward the sea'; Khari is Swahili for 'kingly'; Malachi is a Hebrew prophet whose name means 'my messenger'. Makhari sounds like all three and descends from none of them so far as the record shows. It appears in the American registers in the 2000s, built from parts that were in circulation. The neighbors are real; the descent is not documented.
