The story of Atreyu
Die unendliche Geschichte was published in 1979 and filmed in 1984; Atreyu is the young warrior sent to save Fantastica. Ende disliked the film enough to sue. The name entered American use after it and appears in the registers from the 1990s. A band of the name from 1998 carried it further. It is in current use.

son of all
Michael Ende gives the name to a boy raised by his whole tribe after his parents' death, and the book glosses it as 'son of all'. It does not correspond to a word in any natural language; the gloss belongs to the invented setting. A Sanskrit Atreya, 'of the Atri line', is a separate and genuine name.

The Daylan test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Atreyu's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Daylan climbed just as high around 2003, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Daylan's path sketches the road Atreyu is walking now.
Atreyu sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
