The story of Linkin
Lincoln was a Roman colonia and a great cathedral city; Abraham Lincoln's family took the surname from it. American given-name use rose sharply from the 2000s. The Linkin respelling appears in the registers in that decade, helped by a band of that name formed in 1996, and it is in current use.
Meaning
colony by the pool
Through Lincoln, from the Celtic lindo, 'pool' — the element also in Dublin's linn — and the Latin colonia. Lindum Colonia contracted over fifteen centuries. The English word 'link' is a separate Norse word and is not the source, despite what this spelling suggests.
