The story of Katerin
Catherine of Alexandria, whose historicity is doubtful, was among the most venerated saints of medieval Europe, and her name spread into every language: Katherine, Catalina, Ekaterina, Katarzyna, Caterina, Kateryna. Latin America took Catalina and, more recently, the Slavic-looking Katerina and Katherin, which arrived through the general twentieth-century circulation of names rather than through any Slavic community. Katerin appears in American records from the 1990s in Hispanic families, particularly Central American, and peaks in 2006.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Greek Aikaterine has no established derivation. The connection to katharos, pure, is a Christian reinterpretation that reshaped the spelling — the name was written with an initial Aik- before it was written Kath-. Its true source is unknown; a link to the goddess Hecate has been proposed and is not established. Katerin is a Spanish and Latin American shortening of Katerina with no separate history.

The Krissa test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Katerin's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Krissa climbed just as high around 1970, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Krissa's path sketches the road Katerin is walking now.
