Kacper
Masculine
Kacper is the Polish form of Caspar, and Caspar is one of the three names traditionally given to the Magi. Those names appear in no gospel — the text says only that wise men came from the east — and were supplied by a sixth-century Greek manuscript, which makes them one of Christianity's most durable pieces of invented tradition.

The story of Kacper
The Excerpta Latina Barbari, a sixth-century Latin translation of a Greek chronicle, gives the Magi as Bithisarea, Melichior and Gathaspa, and later tradition settled on Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. Their relics are claimed by Cologne Cathedral, and their names became widely used across Catholic Europe — Kacper, Melchior and Baltazar are all ordinary Polish names. Kacper has been in the Polish top ten for two decades, and its American appearances, peaking in 2006, reflect Polish immigration.

Probably from a Persian word for treasurer
Caspar is generally derived from Persian ganzabara, a treasurer, through Aramaic Gaspar — which fits neatly with the gifts and may be why the name was chosen for the story. The derivation is plausible and widely accepted but not documented. Polish Kacper reflects Polish orthography, in which c before a vowel is a ts sound.

Pronouncing Kacper
KATS-per
Two syllables with the stress on the first — Polish stresses the penultimate syllable, which lands there. The c is a ts sound, as in cats, not a K or an S. English speakers say KAS-per, which is Casper rather than Kacper.

The Artemus test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kacper's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Artemus climbed just as high around 1971, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Artemus's path sketches the road Kacper is walking now.
Kacper sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
