The story of Julisa
The Roman calendar had drifted badly out of step with the seasons because intercalation was controlled by priests who used it politically. Caesar, as pontifex maximus, replaced it with a solar calendar of 365 days and a leap day, designed with the Alexandrian astronomer Sosigenes, and inserted ninety extra days into 46 BC to reset the alignment. The month Quintilis was renamed July for him after his death, and Sextilis became August for his heir — which is why the Roman ordinal months are now two out of step, September being the ninth and not the seventh. The Julian calendar ran until Gregory's correction in 1582. Julisa peaks in America in 1997.

Latin, from the Julian family
Julia is the feminine of Julius, a Roman gens name traditionally derived from Iulus, son of Aeneas; the derivation is a family tradition rather than a documented etymology. Julisa is a modern Latin American formation on Juli- with the -isa ending, and the compound has no documented meaning of its own.

Julisa's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Suzann climbed just as high around 1946, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Suzann's path sketches the road Julisa is walking now.
