The story of Juliann
The Roman calendar had drifted so far out of step with the seasons that Caesar, advised by an Alexandrian astronomer, inserted three extra months into 46 BC to reset it, then imposed a year of 365 days with a leap day every fourth year. It was very nearly right, out by about eleven minutes a year, and those minutes accumulated into ten days by the sixteenth century, which is why Pope Gregory corrected it in 1582. Catholic Europe changed at once; Britain and its colonies refused for another 170 years and switched only in September 1752, when eleven days were removed from the calendar and the legal year moved from March to January. The month of July carries Caesar's name, and so, at several removes, does every Julia, Julian and Juliann.
