The story of Jordynn
Crusaders returning from the Holy Land brought back water from the Jordan for baptisms and began naming children for the river, which is how a place name became a European given name in the twelfth century. It was used for both sexes from the start. American use rose sharply in the late twentieth century, and the girls' side developed its own spellings — Jordyn, Jordynn, Jordan — while the boys' side kept the river's own.
