Our story of Jonael
Hebrew names ending in -el are compounds with the divine name: Michael asks who is like God, Daniel says God is my judge, Rafael says God heals. Spanish inherited a good number of them, and by the twentieth century the -ael ending was familiar enough in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to be used as a naming element in its own right, attached to new stems. That produces Jonael, Yonael, Josael and Yamael, which are genuinely new theophoric names made by the same procedure that produced the ancient ones. Nobody planned that continuity and it is real. Jonael's best year in United States records is 2015, which makes it one of the newest names in this collection.

God, in the second element
The -ael ending is Hebrew El, God, arriving through Michael, Rafael and Ismael, which are all long-established Spanish names. The Jon- opening is either the name John, Hebrew Yohanan, God is gracious, or a free syllable. If it is the former the compound doubles the divine reference; if the latter it is a new theophoric name built from a familiar ending.

The Linden test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jonael's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Linden climbed just as high around 1947, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Linden's path sketches the road Jonael is walking now.
Jonael sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The -ael ending carries a genuine Hebrew element with a real meaning.
- Jon and Jona are both complete names available inside it.
- Marks a Puerto Rican or Caribbean heritage clearly.
- The j is an h in Spanish and a j in English, giving two very different names.
- Yonael, Jonael and Jonaell all circulate.
- It is very new, so nobody can say how it will age.
Nobody names a baby alone.
