The story of Jireh
Genesis 22 has Abraham name the mountain Yahweh Yireh after the ram appears — the verse turns on the double sense of a verb that means both to see and to provide for. The phrase entered Christian devotional use as Jehovah Jireh. Jireh appears in the American registers as a given name for both sexes and is in current use.
Meaning
he will see, he will provide
From the Hebrew yireh, 'he will see' or 'he will provide', the second half of Yahweh Yireh in Genesis 22. Abraham names the place that after the ram is provided instead of Isaac. Seeing and providing are the same verb in Hebrew, which is the point of the passage.

- The stress placement differs sharply from the Hebrew.
- It reads as specifically Christian devotional in American use.
